Pinball has felt like one of the more niche hobbies out there for quite some time, so some might be shocked to hear that they are making new pinball machines all the time. With the Pokemon Pinball machine being released recently, it’s exciting to hear that the Sonic the Hedgehog Pinball machine is being released by Jersey Jack Pinball, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.
The Sonic the Hedgehog pinball machine looks stunning, of course. There are ramps and loops that are meant to get you into a sonic flow. The 27″ LED screen plays a bunch of different Sonic clips from Sonic Generations; levels like Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant, and classic songs like Green Hill, Escape from the City and more. You can even connect Bluetooth headphones or external speakers to this machine to hear the music within your gaming space. There is also a second upper zone, full of little LED screen rings, that you can get your bowl to and destroy Egghead on – the machine seems to very much capture the spirit of Sonic.
There are three editions of the Sonic the Hedgehog Pinball machine, a collectors edition, special edition and an arcade edition. These are to fit different budgets and have slightly different upgrades to them, but the gameplay on the machine is the same. The Special and Collector’s edition have different cabinet artwork, haptic feedback, non-reflective Invisiglass and more. It’s a stunning take on Sonic the Hedgehog and feels like it’s perfectly timed with the release of other major IPs pinball machines! I am planning on keeping my eye out and hoping to see the Sonic the Hedgehog pinball machine in an arcade near me.
