Discounty People or Profit Free Expansion out now

0

Discounty, a cosy management game where you run your own supermarket in a small town full of drama and mystery, has a free expansion called People or Profit?, which is out now on PC. This expansion adds more endings, another chapter, and lots of new features.

We previously reviewed Discounty:

“I can’t wait for more Discounty to come, there’s something deeply satisfying about running a day’s shift in my little shop — however, now that the local drama has all died down there’s less of a reason to keep returning. Discounty‘s biggest weakness is that it has an ending that doesn’t quite feel like an ending, and doesn’t give you a reason to keep going… but, if you love it after an hour then you’ll love it right up until the credits roll.”

Discounty puts you at the helm of a supermarket franchise expanding into a new town

The People or Profit? expansion brings a new chapter that follows on directly after the ending of Discounty, where Aunt Tellar finally puts you in charge, leaving you to run the store and ultimately determine what is done with the branch and the town. Along with the supermarket, you will also be deciding the fate of Blomkest. The decisions that you make, through a branching final questline, will reveal one of three new endings to the game.

You’ll need to determine what your focus is going to be as you cross paths with new characters; Gaspard who is Tammy’s disgraced brother who dreams of running a hydroponic farm, Angeel who is a bougie city girl opening a branch of the luxury grocery store Muimerp and Casey, a troubled teen who is trying to sell ‘legitimate’ goods from the trunk of a car.

Alongside these new characters and new storylines, there are some new features that have been added to the People or Profit expansion. You can focus on town restoration, where you can restore old shops, museums, and even billboards around the town, bringing it back to life. You can also check out Jurgen’s old workshop, to create gadgets that will help your shop become more modern — like self-checkouts for example.

There are also a bunch of new items — 35 to be exact — which you can sell in your shop and your shop can have random events that will bring more of a variety to your day to day work. If you are looking for something a bit more stable, you can also purchase a house and move out of your aunt’s trailer.

For those who are fans of the game, it’s time to jump back in. If you’ve not played yet then this is a great reason to start! The People or Profit expansion is out now for PC, and will be coming to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch in July.
