Directive 8020 is a science fiction horror game that has you landing on a new planet as the Earth dies out, trying to find a way to start a colony so that humanity can survive. It’s a part of the long-running The Dark Pictures Anthology, and, as of today, the soundtrack is now available for streaming.

“Directive 8020 isn’t changing the minds of those who have never liked Supermassive’s offerings, but lapsed fans can dip their toe into the space faring adventure with confidence that they’ll have a good time. I love that they’ve gone in a new direction with something completely different to the themes of their previous games and I’m hoping they keep going with the science fiction horror approach as it feels quite underexplored.”
This original soundtrack was created by two-time BAFTA award-winning composer Jason Graves, of Dead Space, Tomb Raider, and Until Dawn fame. The composition of the soundtrack takes into consideration the atmosphere of the distant planet, using sounds such as the UI bleeps and bloops, which have been turned into music fitting for the setting and mood of the game.
Jason Graves said:
“I also introduce the main thematic concept of the protagonist – a shape-shifting creature of unknown origin. Just like the creature, notes bend and shift without any proper logic or predictability. These constantly changing, bending notes are featured throughout the entire score. Sometimes they feel slightly mysterious, other times completely off.”
Some tracks look at the individual characters, others look at the ship or atmosphere around the main gameplay, while some have moments of unexpected sound. There are 12 tracks within the Directive 8020 original soundtrack album:
