Slice of life adventure games have happened in almost every biome and atmosphere in the world at this point! Kohlrabi Starship is taking the genre to a deserted desert planet, where a crashed spaceship is your new home. You’ll need to turn this desert into a thriving ecosystem, through hard work and cleaning up what’s there.
In Kohlrabi Starship, you have been given your long abandoned grandmother’s spaceship, which is currently half-buried in sand and unable to actually fly. You’re not someone who’s lived in a desert, so now you need to start carving out your own life. The first few days within this game are about getting your greenhouse thriving with plants and cleaning up a lot of the random metal that’s dotted around the desert and within your own ship. This metal is a resource that can be used to repair your ship in the future!
When your ship is repaired, you will be tasked with traveling the galaxy, finding different creatures and new plants to bring them back to your desert. Using these different living beings, slowly, you can bring life to the desert and revive this part of the world.
In the demo that I played at Gamescom this year, I was able to see the ins and outs of the spaceship, as well as a few cats that were dotted around the desert. The full game is also going to feature some romanceable characters, people to meet and befriend, and alien life that you can move to your growing desert town.
The future of Kohlrabi Starship sounds like an interesting one, and as a fan of the genre, I will be keeping my eye on the release of this game and hoping to work towards growing not only my ship but making a positive impact on the world around me.
