E3 2017 | Anthem Trailer Launched, Gameplay Revealed

Anthem, previously code-named Dylan apparently, got a lot of people at this years E3 2017 talking as Microsoft took to the stage and threw it in along with many other announcements.

To start, Anthem, on the 10th of June 2017 got this short teaser while EA Play kickstarted the E3 2017 event, but it didn’t give anything away, except that we could expect a post apocalyptic world, and there was going to be some type of mech suit that many people on social media took to saying that it looked like an updated Destiny. However we all knew it wasn’t a Destiny title as that was made by Bungie. Anthem is a title by Electronic Arts and Bioware.

We originally knew that Anthem was a brand new IP by the two, and when Microsoft launched the E3 2017 Gameplay trailer, we got to see a lot of features in action. We see the introduction cutscene playing out with some marvellous graphics, and set within a busy market of sorts. The player heads off and jumps into their exosuit, which activates the third person mode. Trying to take our eyes away from the incredible landscape, we’re told that the suit will allow for customisation, and that the world is a shared-world, meaning that you can play alongside friends, and join them as you become Freelancers, heading out into the wild, armoured up with their suit, and unique weapons and abilities available to them.

The suits allow players to fly around in a similar fashion to how Iron Man flies around actually, but it looks very well done, and even works underwater. The combat seems to take a Mass Effect shooter style approach  We see several moments throughout the trailer where the player gains experience points, but we don’t get to see where this would be implemented, but I would assume that you’d get to upgrade your suits abilities and such. Makes sense right? There also seems to be “simulated voices” going on between the players, although I’m not sure how this will work with real players as the audio quality seems far too rich for a real world experience.

The title will be launching in Fall 2018.
