Panzer Corps 2 Announced, Shifting to Unreal Engine For Development
Panzer Corps 2 is in the making Slitherine confirmed earlier this week.
The new title, which will be developed by Flashback Games, and published by longtime publisher Slitherine, will see the series move to an external engine for the first time, in this case the Unreal Engine.
On the subject of the engine change the press release stated “The move to a fully 3D engine is a natural evolution of the game, but the core gameplay will always remain true to its roots: pay tribute to the classic gameplay of a distant golden age of strategy gaming, refine it, perfect it and use the most recent technologies to enhance these experiences and bring them to a new generation of gamers. In other words, strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation, both in visuals and gameplay.”
The series, for those unaware, is an in-depth turn-based tactical affair with limited troop-counts completing objectives over extensive, detailed, hex-based maps. The games have always featured deep stat systems for unit damage, as well as terrain modifiers, encouraging players to take their time and familiarise themselves with unit-type variances as opposed to rushing ahead.
Panzer Corps 2 is currently scheduled for a 2018 release. You can see the teaser trailer below.
