Floatopia brings magic into a small island

It’s no secret I was very into Animal Crossing. Like everyone else at the start of lockdown, I spent hours and hours decorating my island with my youngest, going to events, catching bugs, and gathering resources. Now, I feel like I’ve done absolutely everything and there is nothing left for me. Maybe, that’s one of the reasons why Floatopia has really stuck with me.

Floatopia has a really unique style, reminding me a lot of those little box-opening collectables that I have been occasionally buying and building a collection of on my shelves at home. These characters and their islands look toy-like, kinda like the blind-bag babies that you’ve likely seen advertised on the internet. The game itself is different from the likes of Animal Crossing, but has the same sort of vibe. Floatopia also features a real-life day and night cycle, so you will see time passing by as you play.

You’re a villager on an island full of other characters, each with their own personalities and personal traits. You can customize your house, add in different furniture you’ve crafted, go fishing, explore, gather resources and much more. The real unique point is in your character itself; you’ve got super powers that allow you to do something a little different. Some have the power to make plants grow quicker and others have the power to fly around, so that they can get places quickly.

I didn’t even notice the powers at first, when playing the short demo at Gamescom this year. I was too captivated by the cute world and the little party happening in town. It was someone’s birthday, and as night was coming, we were dancing our time away. I then started exploring around, checking out the shop which has little details making it look like a playset made out of cardboard.

Floatopia is shaping up to be a well made game with a lot of details put into it. I am really excited to see what other in-game events there will be and what else I am going to be able to do on my little island, floating in the sky.

You can currently pre-register Floatopia, which will give you exclusive in-game items when the game does release.
