Star Wars: Unlimited Icons announced – A “mini-set” for Star Wars: Unlimited
We are big fans of Star Wars: Unlimited, the popular TCG for the long-running sci-fi film series. At UKGE, Asmodee announced Star Wars: Unlimited Icons — a sort of introductory, mini-set for the base game.
For those unfamiliar, we’ve got a Star Wars: Unlimited Guide:
“Star Wars Unlimited is an amazing TCG featuring the loved and feared characters featured throughout Star Wars and its extended universe. Build a deck, pick a leader, pick a base and the aspects to go with it and you’re away! But, if like I was when I started out, half of this means absolutely nothing to you (although you’d like to learn) then this Star Wars Unlimited beginners guide can point you in the right direction to start your Unlimited journey!”
The Star Wars: Unlimited Icons box is a 194 card mini-set that is meant to help both new and returning players jump straight into the game, without adding new set-specific mechanics. It’s essentially a tutorial game that has the aim of helping players understand the basics without needing to invest in decks right away or get overwhelmed with different types or match-ups.
Star Wars: Unlimited Icons features fewer cards to look through and pick from, which should very much help new players avoid that feeling of being overwhelmed when coming into a type, or keyword rich system. There are also eight all-new leader cards, like Darth Vader and Leia Organa, along with a new legendary card featuring Anakin Skywalker. There are also new rare and legendary cards, including Darth Sidious, Lando Calrissian and the Millennium Falcon, making this a very interesting set of cards that might well be worth picking up for those who are actively playing.
The idea of having Star Wars: Unlimited Icons as a bridge to quickly understand and get to grips with the gameplay is very clever and will surely make for a more accessible card game, as well as an on-ramp for new players.
