Don’t Press That Mine Turtle Reloaded

Shell of an expansion?

If you wanted Don’t Press That Mine Turtle to have more cards, then this is for you!

So, I liked the idea of Don’t Press That Mine Turtle well enough, but felt like some of the challenge cards were aimed at a bit of a different audience to me. That isn’t a criticism as such, but I’d have liked more of the ‘truth or dare’ inspired cards to have had a few more silly dares and fewer that involve messing around with social media accounts. Whilst the Don’t Press That Mine Turtle reloaded mini expansion doesn’t do away with those cards that feel a little more destructive, the inclusion of more of the fun cards is more than appreciated.

If you aren’t aware of how Don’t Press That Mine Turtle works, the premise is simple enough. Give a challenge card to a player for them to complete. If they successfully do as the card says, you have to press the button on the back of the included explosive turtle a certain number of times. If they fail or refuse it, then they’ll need to press that same button. After an undisclosed number of presses, the turtle explodes and the player loses. It’s silly and light hearted and would be perfect for families if not for some cards which definitely aim it at a more teens/early-20s demographic.

The card art is as fun as ever.

Still, the game itself is fun enough, and can be used for families too if you sift out a few of the cards. This Kickstarter exclusive expansion simply adds more cards for you to mess about with. Ideally you’d mix them in with the base game to provide more content. It’s slightly irritating that they won’t fit into the base game box, but it isn’t the end of the world. The cards are of high quality again, and the artwork is simplistic but still silly fun.

The new cards are really more of the same, so don’t expect a seismic shift in the gameplay. Things like identifying which player most recently pooped, or delivering wedding vows to another player are pretty funny in most situations. Then again, asking players to show you their bank balance might be a bit uncomfortable for a fair few players, and giving a player a script to read from to upload a video to social media could be abused with the wrong crowd. As with the main game, you might want to sift through the cards before playing with a group.

With all that said though, Don’t Press That Mine Turtle is still a fun base game, and these extra cards provide a nice bit of extra content for those wanting a little bit more. Just be prepared to make some adjustments if you plan on playing with family.

Some of the cards will just be a hard pass for a lot of players.
