Towards the end of last year, we had the chance to play Smash Tanks! at the Yorkshire Games Festival. The game was a blast — in more ways than one — and released in December to glowing praise on iOS. Now those on Android devices can get in on the friend-destroying AR fun.
Smash Tanks! turns any flat surface into a battleground, where you take it in turns to smash tanks against those of your real or virtual opponent. It functions a bit like billiards, letting you bounce tanks off walls to reach out-of-the-way spots. The physicality of its AR controls immerse you in the fun of it: tanks careering across the arena, buildings toppling down.
We were impressed with how fun even our short experience was, so undoubtedly since several months of updates, Smash Tanks! will be a great game for Android users to pick up. Whether playing on your own or with a friend, it is perhaps the kind of AR we always wanted when the dream first became reality.
Smash Tanks! is available now on Android phones capable of ARCore, as well as iPhone devices running iOS 11.0 or later.
