Bigben Interactive Secures Test Drive Brand, Keen on Starting Development Post Haste
Bigben Interactive have confirmed that they have secured the Test Drive brand from ailing publisher Atari. Atari have, however, retained rights to previous entries in the series.
The Test Drive series has a storied history; the series originally starting in the late 80s and has changed hands, and developers, several times in its extensive history. The series, which has a habit of sitting dormant, had recently seen a resurgence in popularity with 2006 & 2011’s Test Drive: Unlimited, however it has now been half a decade since the latter’s release.
That’s set to change however, as Bigben Interactive have today confirmed that they have acquired rights to the future of the brand from the Atari Group; and made clear their intent to being work on the title soon. Atari, meanwhile, retain rights to the previous entries in the series.
Alain Falc, CEO of Bigben Interactive said of the IP’s potential, “Our teams are very enthusiastic at the idea of being able to work on this license, which has already proven its worth – the game Test Drive Unlimited 2 sold 1.8 million units”.
Bigben are probably best known for holding the WRC license, however they also recently published Frogware’s Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter amongst other titles.
