Enter the stunning world of Ultros and eat your enemies
The beautiful, neon, colorful world of Ultros looks like one out of a strange, psychedelic dream. This metroidvania has you stuck in a “cosmic uterus holding an ancient, demonic being”. There are tons of other monsters in this world, which you can slice and dice to death, finding bits of them to eat to help grow your own power.
Ultros is a really beautiful game where you are able to loop back and start over at moments that you may need a second chance on. This sort of back-tracking feels seamless, as you move yourself forward and backwards in this world. There is also a whole skill tree mechanic within the game, that requires you to eat parts of enemies to grow levels within your skill tree.
These skills can change how you play the game, giving you advanced abilities and improving things you can already do. Eating various parts of enemies also allows you to heal, though sometimes you can plant things that came from enemies to see what they build and grow into. Ultros feels mysterious, strange, and unlike anything else I have ever played.
Though I only got a chance to experience some of Ultros at WASD, the developers told me about the greater story. There are moments where you will wonder if fighting these strange creatures is really what you should be doing or if there is a way to have peace. This goes against the fighting, which feels like a main point in the game, creating more points of interest.
Ultros feels like a mysterious game with so much to explore and discover as you find your way around this colorful world. Between exploring this strange world, fighting off monsters, and figuring out the best way to spend your points in your skill tree, this game has a lot to offer.
Ultros does not currently have a release date, but you can wishlist the game on Steam.
