Play Tabletop RPGs in First Person with Adventure Roll, Now Funding on Kickstarter
Developer Allied Games have taken their first-person RPG suite to Kickstarter, seeking funding to finish making the title ahead of a free-to-play launch in future.
Adventure Roll is an answer to a question a lot of people have been asking for a long time: What is next after Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds? Both of which are used by many to hold remote games of D&D, and various other rulesets, over distances while maintaining a clean, digital tabletop. It turns out that the answer might in fact be a first person take on traditional accompanying materials like maps and miniatures.
In fact, the game looks as though somebody started building a procedural fantasy RPG, and decided instead to release their level testing build as a tabletop tool. Walls, roofs, and objects all snap together making easy work of quick location assembly. In addition to this, enemies can be controlled and moved around by the GM, who retains access to the entire toolbox.
Currently the game will support Dungeons & Dragon’s 5, however the developers are planing on adding in D20, which is great news as many people -myself included- have always felt that it was one of the more malleable rulesets.
On the subject of future plans for the game in an, as well as how additional tiles and character models would be added to the game, the developers had the following to say: “Adventure Roll aims to be a free to play platform available to everyone. A marketplace will allow content creators to sell their work to other users, whether it’s custom characters, props or environmental assets. People who support the Kickstarter can gain a variety of benefits, including: early access, beta access, unlimited character slots and exclusive swag.”
There’s a few other points worth mentioning too. The system runs on Unreal Engine 4, and also fully supports VR. There’s also a demo available on the Kickstarter page.
Adventure Roll is currently seeking $10,000 before July 27th, with full release for the game anticipated in the middle of July 2019. You can find the Kickstarter Here
