Gunnar “Mad Moxxie” Glasses – Conquer Your Eye-Strain, Then The Borderlands
We’ve covered several Gunnar Optics glasses over the past year, however none have been more tied to capital-g gaming than the Gunnar ‘Mad Moxxie’ Glasses — with them being one of the first attempts at specifically replicating the style of a character’s apparel, rather than their ‘vibe’ or logo.
Gunnar Glasses are a brand of eyewear that specialise in reducing eye-strain, and they’ve got hundreds of pairs to try – from more mundane to these Mad Moxxie branded ones — which has come about as a result of a special collaboration with the very well known and loved Borderlands franchise. These glasses are a very faithful recreation of the pair Moxxie herself dons in game, usually on her signature tall hat when not being worn, and are so accurate that, apparently, people use these as accessories to an accurate cosplay!

For those who don’t already have the rundown on Gunnar’s glasses range, they’re specifically designed with anti-blue light coatings, which is designed to help prevent the sleep-disrupting glare that you’ll often get from monitors. In addition to that, they always come with a twelve-month guarantee and can also be modified to come in your prescription. In addition to all of this, the Mad Moxxie glasses can come in either a 65 or 98 BLPF Lens Tint (with the latter being closer to those worn by the character, but maybe not as good for indoors and work).
Features aside, and back to style, the major stand out for this edition is the steampunk-style removable mesh side panels. These give an almost goggles-style depth to them – deeper than the Fallout Lucky 38 ones – which, in ‘Jackpot Gold’ really stands out. In fact, I don’t think it’s too daring to say that these are quite the eye-turners themselves — and that’s both their greatest strength and weakness.

For me though, as I could never pull off such a cosplay, I use them as glasses to help improve my eye health and look good while I do it. Gunnar glasses are the best in the business at being both stylish and practical. The lenses are scratch proof and glare proof, and the glasses themselves come in a soft inner pouch and gorgeously themed leather carry case, making sure your investment in these glasses are well protected and safe. The lenses are also designed to help reduce things such as dry eye, muscular eye strain, and limit the visual noise you can see. Each pair of glasses comes with a blue light filter rating, telling you the exact percentage of blue light that is blocked, making sure you can pick the right tint.

Gunnar has a prescription service as well, meaning that if you are someone who needs to wear prescription glasses but would like to try out these special glasses in order to help you at the computer, whether that be for work or gaming, they’ve got you covered with 24/7 support and real doctors to help find the glasses that are right for you. These Mad Moxxie frames are very stylish and comfortable to wear, even for long periods – however, as my head is a little bit too big, I found the arms of the glasses bending outward a little on my face. I should stress that this is not an issue with the frames themselves, but is worth noting if, like me, you have a bigger head than most.
I highly recommend picking up a pair of these, especially if you are exposed to a lot of blue light. Screens are everywhere these days – don’t be afraid to take the plunge!
