What is it?
It’s a tycoon game with a much more general business, operational, outlook than most games in the genre.
The vague name might not do much for the imagination, but the lack of specialisation in the topic you’ll be manufacturing and distributing is deliberate; the game uses a component and marketing system to allow you to build items based around purpose and materials rather than attempting to pin-point the right niches to pock in order to succeed a la Game Dev Story/Tycoon.
Most interestingly the game takes staff benefits and work condition into consideration when it comes to staff productivity. While this is certainly not the first game to broach the subject, the fact that it’s got the framework for that in place from the very start means it could see some really interesting tweaks as development continues.
And, development is continuing. The developers twitch stream the development as it goes on, meaning that player feedback is included in the day-to-day development of the title. The link for that is over on the Steam page.
When’s it due?
Startup Company is listed for a Q1 2017 release date, when it launches it will do so for Windows, Mac & Linux.
At time of writing Startup Company had already passed through greenlight.
