The Best Life Adventure Games brings together the best of a genre

The Best Life Adventure Games is a book recently released by Jupiter Hadley, featuring her outlook on just under fifty of some of the best slice of life and life adventure games. If you have a game where you can step into another reality and just live a little, then it’s almost certainly in this neat little book.

The Best Life Adventure Games hardback is nice and bright, featuring some amazing screenshots of the many games that it covers through its 208 glossy pages. Those pages are filled to the brim with information about the game, as well as a diary entry penned by a character of the game, letting you see behind the curtain and into the mind of someone who really lived in that world — As it’s easy for all of us to feel that way when playing RPGs.

My personal favourite from the book was the section on Cult of The Lamb bringing the character of the lamb to life and explaining what the day-to-day living of the lamb might be like. It’s also highly informative and gives you a nice breakdown of who was behind it and what you can play it on, accompanied by plenty of images of the games. 

One bit that did confuse me a little was the dates that are featured just above the diary entries as I, at first, thought they were the dates that the game was being played, but it was instead the release dates of each of the games featured throughout the book. This is cool, but I personally think it would have been better suited with the other information at the beginning of each new game’s section.

Reading through the many different games featured I found myself filled with a pleasant nostalgia for the games that I have played, and a sneak peak at some I certainly would like to try. It also allows you to briefly step into these worlds and see for yourself if it’s something you’d like to go further into and actually play. 

Overall, The Best Life Adventure Games is a charming book filled with the perspectives of many characters but one mind, its a combination of experiences and fun that few manage to master let alone bring across to an audience to also enjoy.
