Greetings and salutations board game fans! What a treat we have in store for crowdfunding in August 2026! Don’t forget to check out last month’s collection of games, some of which are still up for grabs for just a little while longer. But for now, lets crack on!
The Guild: Ren Faire’d
But John I hear you say, this is not a game!? And yes, you would be right, and I mulled over this for a good twelve seconds before settling on including The Guild.
Nearly twenty years ago The Guild hit screens, at the time I was really into it, it was different, made on a shoestring budget, but most of all, it was fun. But without The Guild; Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton would not have then launched TableTop, and that was a show that got many of us into this hobby.
TableTop then morphed into the Geek and Sundry YouTube channel, which was then acquired and sadly TableTop came to an end. There have been pretenders to its thrown for a long time, and whilst I usually found any episode with Felicia in one I often skipped, its been ten years since then and they are launching a new show called Conludo, which is Latin for “play together” and is totally a name that someone good at marketing should have maybe advised against as people will forever ask “what does it mean?”
There is A LOT to unpack with this kickstarter, obviously there is The Guild movie, where you can get all kinds of things from being in the credits, to a popcorn bucket that must be mine, and will be placed next to my Dune one.
But there is also blind box pins, comics omnibus, poster, signed movie script, a t-shirt. There’s a lot. For those of you with money to a level that I don’t think I would ever have you can be on set and even a featured extra for those of you after some digital immortality!
You can also pick up The Guild TTRPG as a supplement to D&D 5.5e. Set in Dragonor: a world where outhouses devour you ass-first, where Stupid Tall Hot Girl steps on you, and the spells can make you glitch into walls (their words, not mine). This TTRPG written by Vince Caso could be something you are after.
AND YES! THERE IS MORE! There is also The Guild Swords and Sweethearts cardgame. Inspired by the song Do You Wanna Date My Avatar (I had totally forgotten this song and how catchy it was) Swords and Sweethearts is a fantasy dating sim card game. Players will equip loot to boost their stats in order to woo the towns eligible suitors. But to seal the deal, you must whisk them off on an absurd date, where lucky rolls, magical mishaps will see your romance blossom or fall apart. The cards are based on characters from the universe, but as an exclusive to backers a non retail Legendary Pack will available with cards that feature greats such as Alan Tudyk, Deborah Ann Woll, Misha Collins and Dungeon Crawler Carl. Also Jimothy.

Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game
If like me you have spent many many hours looking after your little cult and ushering them into a delightful new existence, then this might be the board game for you. Don’t worry Alastair VII, I-VI were not sacrificed to make everyone else work a little harder, promise…….
Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game is a worker placement dungeon crawler. The game is split into phases. First you will crusade, venture through dungeons and destroy any enemies that stand in your way, you will then be able to claim loot and trade at shops familiar to those of us that have played the game. Reveal events and anticipate your opponents intentions to gain the upper hand. This section of Cult of the Lamb: The Board Game uses a dice placement mechanic and utilizes a push your luck element to see how much you try to get for your cult.
The second phase sees you manage your cult site and this is the primary worker placement mode where you will recruit new followers and gather resources and do your best to manage them. Compete for action spaces by sending your Followers and Prophets across the board to strengthen your cult at the expense of your rivals.
You have base building where you can unlock and decorate your buildings which will gain you bonus recipes, remove dreaded poop and help you generate victory points. You can also enact Doctrines to help you get an edge on your opponents.
Lastly there is the Vengeance phase, where you can destroy the bishops and try to defeat The One Who Waits and claim your place as the ultimate power in the Land of the Old Faith.
I may have thought that this would have maybe worked better as a coop game, but the theme certainly leads to the idea of this being a conflict game so I think they made the right call. What is available as a part of the kickstarter look amazing. The basic edition has card standees and for many that will be great as you don’t have to think about painting a standee, but the all-in deluxe edition is a beautiful thing I think you should consider backing as there are some amazing minis that I think will give your copy more of a standout feel and allow you to lord it over your friends.

Wreck – A New Game in the Wroth Universe
Set in the same universe as Wrath, Wreck is a tactical area control game with a naval setting. If you happen to already own Wrath, then the factions are designed to work across both games. Lately there seems to be a growth in games that have a world across different titles, and so far I am here for it.
The emphasis of the gameplay is naval positioning and fleet manoeuvres. You draft and spend dice to perform the different actions. You start off with two of your basic troops and three faction ships in your deployment zone. And you will take your actions on land and sea until the first player reaches 30 victory points and ends the game.
Each faction have different units and styles so you have a lot of variability to find what works best for you when you play. You have the Scurve, Muuren, Wroith and Skald.
It would not be a recommendation from me though without pointing out the quality of the games production. Just look at it! Bask in its beauty and weep, for we are not worthy. Every component is of a high quality and the artwork has a beautiful hand painted look to its style. You can even get an artbook which that on its own would be a worth a purchase, its that stunning.

Special Mention – Arkham Horror Remastered
Arkham Horror Remastered is coming October 2026, but it is one to keep your eye out for as I am VERY excited for this one. Whilst 3rd Edition is still in the wild, many of us have always had a special place in our hearts for the out of print 2nd Edition. Now Fantasy Flight Games brings us the first of the Vault Series where they update and release some old favourites. 
This edition has a revamped rule book, upgraded components and it will feature the entire run of 2nd Edition with all its expansions. So if you are like me and a huge fan of the Arkham universe, get ready to jump back on the streets of that that city and see if you can survive the madness or be consumed by it.
