Encyclopedia of Monsters is a monster hunting board game set to release later this summer
Hachette, the creators behind Cyclades, Yogi, Middle Ages and many other board games we’ve reviewed over the years have announced their upcoming game Encyclopedia of Monsters. This new game is designed by Antonie Bauza, Corentin Lebrat and Theo Riviere – published by Scorpion Masque – and it’s aimed at a younger audience.
Encyclopedia of Monsters is an engaging, cooperative memory game where players will travel around the world in search of legendary creatures, monsters and spirits. There are five different, vibrant volumes — like a real book of encyclopaedias, each representing a different Continent. Inside the individual volumes of Encyclopedia of Monsters, you can find all of the different components to visit that Continent’s three Countries. Each of them are different, with their own creatures, rules and challenges.
Gameplay works in a way that you will play a Monster card on your turn, using the Special Rule for that specific monster to try and find their corresponding token. If you successfully find that Monster, it will stay visible. If you fail, a Candle is blown out and all of the monsters will be flipped face-down again, forcing you to completely start over. This is the memory aspect of the game – where you must remember where the monsters are when they are flipped.
Encyclopedia of Monsters is a two to four player game, for ages six and above. The release is set for July of this year, so this might just be the perfect game to cure boredom during the summer holiday. It’s such a cool looking box!
