I’ll be Brave, Tomorrow is a touching narrative game about coping

I’ll be Brave, Tomorrow is a narrative driven game that tells you the story of a sick child, who is playing games in their hospital room, to act as a little escape for the world they are in. The story of a young child, sick and looking for an escape, isn’t one I’ve played before. The need for an escape, the various different mini-games that you can play, and the slow pace of the story is something special.

At first, you have just a few different things to interact with. Your father has gotten you a video game about a little bird that jumps through platforms and bounces on mushrooms. This pixel art game takes you out of your 3D environment, and gives you something to aim towards. Once you are pulled out of that game, however, you are back to your world where you can either fill out paperwork or decide against it.

Instead, you can make paper airplanes, aiming at the various bins around the room or play with cars as they race around a track you have created. There are lots of little games to play, however, the full escape of reality doesn’t quite happen, as you are always pulled back to your reality and see this room.

When speaking to the developers of this game at WASD, they explained that the story is meant to be emotional and tug on your heart strings. One of the key developers was this kid, growing up in a hospital, looking for distractions. I’ll be Brave, Tomorrow is emotional, split with mini-games that sort of give a break to the story.

This game also is partnered with Great Ormond Street Hospital, where 50% of the revenue will be donated directly to them.

You can currently play the demo on Steam or wishlist the game ahead of it’s release.
