Greenlight Highlight | New HomelandTitle: New Homeland
Developer: Hot Fudge Games

What type of game is it?

Adventure RPG

What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?

A 2D Adventure game with vastly more depth; you can take over running a city, build one yourself after mining out the depths, run quests for NPCs, solve the underlying Metroivania game, or simply chill as a farmer or trader. Phew.

What do we like most about it?

A scary amount of effort has gone into making what could have simply been dismissed as a Terraria clone in it’s early stages into an amazing smorgasborg of the best bits from Wonder Boy, Terraria, Harvest Moon and vastly, vastly more.

New Homeland is, quite literally, looking to be a major step in the sandbox genre, with a major -optional- underlying plotline; personality-driven NPCs who all act to their own timetables; mining and crafting functionality which is also bolstered by a management aspect, one that’s build on exponentially should you come into possession of an already established and operational area.

All of this is presented with a tweaked 16-bit style, one that very clearly serves as a style, rather than being implemented to save production time. If you watch the young protagonist as he advances through his journey in the trailer he undergoes massive transformations as he change his armour and weapons out. Maybe not a ground-breaking idea, but certainly one that highlights drive and dedication from the development team.

If you are even marginly interested in the game then check out it’s Kickstarter [here], it details everything I’ve mentioned here and more. It also happens to do it without babbling incoherently like myself.

When’s it due?

New Homeland is currently scheduled for an Autumn 2018 release for PC, Mac & Linux.
