Team GB: Ready Set Win – Planning Teams for the Future
Team GB: Ready Set Win challenges players to create teams that are battling it out against each other in the Olympics. You will spend your turn trading in specific points for members of your team, who will then be needed when their activity kicks off within the game.
The playboard of Team GB: Ready Set Win is where a lot of this will take place. You can see which people are there that can be recruited, along with their activities that they are able to do. Each of the cards with players on them are split in two, with one team on one side and another team on the other side. This means you might have a card that has three swimmers on one side and two gymnasts on the other. If you want to purchase the card, you need to declare which team you are purchasing, as that’s how you will decide what team you can play. You will then need to place that card, with that specific team facing up, in front of you.
Purchasing is done based on how far along the board they are, as each time someone purchases a card, the cards will then move toward the cheaper end, along with how many team members are on that card. Depending on the card, you might need a specific color of points from your hand, of which there are three types. This becomes a big balance of spending points for teams you might need in the future, by seeing the upcoming events within this Olympics, through the secondary track on the board.
On your turn, there are a few options when it comes to what you can do; you will need to draw an event card, which can cause you to miss a turn or for the games to begin soon, you can draw a points card, purchase some of the team people, or spend a turn changing all of the current cards that are available to purchase. Team GB: Ready Set Win is very easy to learn and play, however it’s challenging to see who is in the lead.
On the cards in front of you, any teams that have two of the same exact team members, get boosted for more points. There are a lot of gaining points, which is done each time an event happens that causes you to discard your team cards for that team. You will then move your character around the edge of the board.
This was probably the only negative with the game; the cardboard meeple for the edge of the board did not stand well, they were hard to move, and you cannot put more than one of these meeples on a single points circle, making it really challenging to actually keep track of who had what points. At the end of the game, there are also lots of ways to get more points, so this doesn’t seem to matter much until the end. Either way, it’s a pretty simple game to play with a lot of options when it comes to your turn, making for a fun family game!
