Catcelona – Cats hidden in the depths of Barcelona

It’s a new hidden object game all about cats! I feel like this recent wave of different hidden object games — largely cat based — is absolutely fantastic. Catcelona is a hidden object game where you will be finding a set number of cats within the city of Barcelona.

Now, you can find a growing number of reviews of different hidden object games about cats, with most of their differences being where they’re based. It’s no different here — in this game, you are finding a set number of cats around the black-and-white city of Barcelona. Unlike many of the other games within this genre, this screen isn’t flat and instead has a bunch of layers. Using a Poloroid-style set of pictures, you can thumb deeper into the settings, as they are sort of layered around each other.

The world also moves tons! There are cats running around, trees moving in the wind, and lots of movement generally to the world. This sort of movement, along with the depth of the game, creates a different sort of hidden object game. When you find a cat, the world doesn’t get color added, and instead you can grab the cat and put it in your cat carrier. There is something fantastic about picking up a cat and bringing it into your bag!

Each of the cats in Catcelona are based on real-life cats, many of which were included as a part of the Kickstarter. There are cards that appear when you collect cats, telling you their name and interests, and showing you a colored picture of them. With over 300 cats to collect, there are a lot of furry creatures to get to know.

I got the chance to play Catcelona at Indie Dev Day, where I was excited to see another relaxing, cozy, hidden object game that has some new sort of twists. The way the world has it’s depth and the way the cats can be found and pulled into your bag, do feel unique to this game.

You can currently make a Late Pledge on Kickstarter and wishlist the game on Steam.
