I tried the Krispy Kreme Pokemon Doughnuts so you don’t have to
Pokemon is literally everywhere I turn at the moment, likely because of their 30th anniversary. So, when I went into my local Tesco today and spotted the Krispy Kreme Pokemon Doughnuts that came out yesterday, I knew I had to give them a taste. There are four donuts total, which you can get in a cute Pokemon-themed box of four or as individual doughnuts in a mix-and-match box of your creation or as a one off.
The Pikachu donut was my absolute favorite, as it is a lemon sherbet Kreme donut, dipped in lemon icing with round sprinkles and an edible Pikachu. This donut had a good amount of lemon flavor between the filling and the icing. My next favorite was the Jigglypuff ring donut, which is an original glazed donut, with strawberry frosting and a strawberry biscuit crumb, along with a Jigglypuff edible decoration. For me, the cookie crumb was very soft, but I do love a glazed donut and the strawberry frosting had a lot of flavor!
The classic Pokeball donut was also an original glazed, with a white icing top, half of which had red sprinkles and a bit of extra black frosting for detail. This felt the most basic, but just because something is basic doesn’t mean it isn’t good! Lastly, I had the Charmander donut, which I did not quite understand. This donut has dulce de leche and marshmallow filling, which is just a little sweet to me, along with a caramel icing, some sugar sprinkles and an edible Charmander. This was my least favorite – but I am not a huge caramel fan and that’s all I was really getting from it.
The Krispy Kreme Pokemon Doughnuts are a lot of fun, and I do enjoy trying new themed treats! I found them to be so much better than the recent Pokemon Pop Tarts from America, which simply have Pokemon on the packaging of their classic Vanilla Pop Tarts.
