The EasySMX X05 Pro is an Xbox style controller that comes with a charging stand and a USB dongle that you can plug into your device so that you can use it even if it doesn’t have Bluetooth. This makes it compatible with things such as your PC or – via Bluetooth – with your mobile phone or Nintendo Switch. When testing this I played with it mostly on my mobile phone.
An extra bonus for me was the EasySMX X05 Pro’s charging stand, which doubles as a stand for your phone when in use. It then kept my phone up so I could more easily see what I was doing on my screen. It doesn’t charge my phone or anything, but it’s useful in terms of a little make-shift phone stand!
Random uses aside, the EasySMX X05 Pro was easy to connect, via Bluetooth, to my mobile phone. It seamlessly started working with games – I mainly played the recently released Don’t Starve Together, where everything worked as expected and the buttons were very responsive. They are quite quiet though! They don’t make loud button noises or such, but you can still feel them working. The D-Pad is particularly good at this, as there is a snap feeling without the loud noise to it. There’s a little texture on the top of the joysticks for your thumbs, which I didn’t really love myself, but that’s likely a personal preference.
The EasySMX X05 Pro has everything you’d expect in terms of buttons, much like a classic Xbox controller, however there are two extra buttons by the shoulders. One is labelled M1 and the other M2. These are remappable and seem to replace the back paddles that controllers like this often have, although this one does not.
Remapping doesn’t require an app to go with it, instead you can hold the M button on the face of the controller, then tap M1 or M2, before tapping the button you want to program and then pressing M1 or M2 to lock it back in. You can even use these buttons to map sequences, so when you press one button, it can end up putting in a bunch of commands. This is quite an interesting feature!
When it comes to battery life, which is something I always feel is important, the EasySMX X05 Pro promises 6 hours, which is a good amount of time to play around with a controller, really. To round it all out there’s also a set of pulsing lights around the controller which really give it an added feeling of quality.
