1000000000 Spells has you building your weapons as you go
When it comes to arena shooters, there have been so many entries in the genre. However, 1000000000 Spells brings its own twist through the crafting and editing of various weapons that you will then use for your round.
In 1000000000 Spells, you will be playing as a student of a modern magic academy, who is looking to diversify their magic styles. You will be playing through rounds of enemies, who spawn into the arena and instantly start attacking you. There are a good variety of different enemies from butterfly-looking fairies to large statues that attempt to fire back at you. The flying books I find extremely hard to hide from.
When you kill an enemy, they drop gems that you can use to charge up your secondary attack, but they do despawn, so you need to pick them up quickly. When fighting against these enemies, you will have two weapons; a primary weapon that you shoot and a secondary spell like weapon that needs to charge up.
These weapons are the really unique aspect of the game. At the end of each round in 1000000000 Spells, you can pick some of the upgraded parts that you can then use for your two attacks. This can be customized on a screen, with the primary weapon at the top and the secondary attack being on the bottom side of the screen. You will be grabbing components and attaching them together, creating a string of what happens when you use that attack. You can create a giant laser that explodes at the end or splice up the weapon so that several events happen when you hit an enemy, creating combos.
There are a lot of different combinations of components that you can use in both your big attack and primary weapon. You can even change it out during the middle of the battle, if you don’t like the result of what you are doing, though I am often too overwhelmed in the arena battle to really move them out! With so many ways to create a weapon you feel works well, there is a lot of fun to be had within the game!
I got the chance to play some of 1000000000 Spells at Indie Dev Days, where I was guided by the dev to make some pretty fantastic weapons! It’s neat to see how these join together and make something more powerful.
